Cholesterol-lowering drugs increase risk of hemorrhagic stroke

"People taking cholesterol-lowering drugs such as atorvastatin after a stroke may be at an increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke, or bleeding in the brain, a risk not found in patients taking statins who have never had a stroke. But researchers caution the risk must be balanced against the much larger overall benefit of the statin in reducing the total risk of a second stroke and other cardiovascular events when making treatment decisions. The research is published in the December 12, 2007, online issue of Neurology", the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

For the study, researchers conducted a secondary analysis of the results of the Stroke Prevention with Aggressive Reduction in Cholesterol Levels (SPARCL...

Celtic Cup agreed 'in principle'

Monday, November 26, 2007

A 'Celtic Cup' involving the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales moved a step closer to reality tonight after all four national associations agreed "in principle" to a biennial tournament starting in 2009.

The agreement was announced on the Football Association of Ireland's website and commits the countries to arranging three tournaments, played on a league basis.

Home and away games will be rotated from one tournament to the next, in the manner of rugby union's Six Nations, with each team playing three matches per tournament.

Commercial arrangements and fixture dates are now being finalised.

The statement was signed by FAI chief executive John Delaney, his IFA counterpart Howard Wells, Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith and Football Association of Wales general secretary David Collins.

Support In Bereavement for Brothers and Sisters Posted by vikki 09 January 2006
8:32:18 PM

SIBBS is a newsletter for young people who have suffered the death of a brother or sister. It is written by and produced by bereaved siblings themselves, and aims to share information about bereavement, reduce isolation and offer mutual support and reassurance.

SIBBS is made up mainly of your letters and poems. All contributions are gladly received, from people of any age, and from anyone who has lost a brother or sister, step brother or step sister, half brother or half sister, or knows anyone who has. Every world holds meaning for somebody.

I’d like to encourage siblings to send their material to me to appear in the newsletter. Have you written a poem about your brother or sister that you would like to share? Do you have a special tribute that I could publish to acknowledge your sibling? If you have anything that you would like to share with other siblings please send it into me either by pm or e mail.

Hope to hear off you all soon

A member here posted something that made me start thinking that we need to have a place for sharing good news, be that about who we are as a person, what we are doing or have done, positive feedback or compliments we just received or have received in the past.

I really, really, really hope that y'all will embrace this topic.  Anything, however teeny tiny, is important.

all of us here have many struggles...let's try and find a few roses among the many thorns.

So here is Morrigan's post to start us off:
